Laudable that the branches of IMA will undertake to know afresh the medical needs of the vast rural population.
It is known that there is much inadequacy of medical infrastructure and doctors, specialists, nurses, and other staff in rural areas because the facilities are concentrated in urban areas for reasons of it being remunerative for new generations of doctors, etc to start their clinics etc in cities. Although a lot of work is done by the States and the Centre to extend the coverage and integration of three-tier rural health infrastructure into health and wellness centres, definitely enormous work needs to be done. IMA may like to think out of the box and ponder this aspect of the needs of our rural compatriots afresh. Would it be too much to suggest by RJS Positive Media that IMA should inspire a large number of new doctors and from amongst those who already been practicing in cities for decades, to now shift their practice to rural areas to cater to the needs of the rural polulace philanthropically and as janbhagidari of governmental endeavours. There are instances of doctors, having foregone the glamour of cities with its possibilities of thriving medical practice, and rather chosen to live amidst villagers and attend to their basic needs near at home. IMA may think of inspiring some of the doctors to transform their medical practice into social service in the health needs of the rural population.
