That the people have an inborn curiosity about the natural phenomena on Earth and sky and are proud of spectacular human achievements too is loud and clear at such unforgettable times as the successful Chandrayan-3 mission of ISRO in achieving the highly8 complex and sophisticated process to softland Vikram near the south pole of the Moon at 6.04 pm on 23.08.2023.
This human curiosity, for that matter, is seen movingly at such moments as the visitation of some comet to the inner solar system, or during the turning of midday solar dazzle into starry night during the total solar eclipse, and so on so forth. However, it is a fact that there is a widespread general lack of the grasp of even the basics of scientific disciplines amongst the people whose curiosity, with exceptions, seems to be mostly aroused by the trivial things of everyday life. However, some are fortunate to conserve and expend the energy of their curiosity for higher goals that can take forward not only the Indian nation, but the entire humanity. In youthful people too, even if they be techno savvy, their gaze is narrowly focussed on a specific narrow part of the entire spectrum of scientific explorations. Most of the energy of youth is not meaningfully used for purposes apart from self-centred motives, and indeed may need to be rechannelised in socially useful directions.
The foregoing is the raison-de-etre of one of the objectives of the newly launched RJS PBH; namely, to assimilate the timeless wisdom of our great heritage in its synergy with the modern scientific thinking. In other words, it is imperative in modern times for societies to come out of the cocoon of anachronistic thinking of all kinds and emerge as truly rational societies that are able to meet the challenges of contemporary times, be it global warming, environmental degradation, and other natural or potential disasters. RJS PBH is committed to spread enthusiasm for science amongst people, a zeal that finds expression not just for a brief duration of exciting scientific developments, as have momentarily attracted well-deserved public attention in the
case of the spectacularly great feat of ISRO scientists in being the first in the world in softlanding Vikram near the south lunar pole where the rover Pragyan has presently already started exploring the lunar terrain. In modern times, when the importance of science and technology is supreme, all need to understand the essentials of science in order to meaningfully participate in social discourse on decisions that affect the present and future well-being of humankind!
