NABH Celebrates World Patient Safety Day 2023 During the NABH Patient Safety Conference (NPSC’23), Unveils 6 New NABH Standards and signs 3 Strategic MoUs
New Delhi, 17/09/23: (RJS PBH)To deliver quality health services, patient safety is a fundamental aspect, and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) takes pride in disseminating this message by successfully organizing the NABH Patient Safety Conference (NPSC’23) in commemoration of World Patient Safety Day 2023.
This one-day event, held on September 17, brought together distinguished leaders, eminent healthcare experts, and about 500 healthcare providers from the National Health Authority (NHA), Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Social Justice, Top Government and Private Hospitals of the Country, & Quality Council of India. They shared invaluable insights and contributed to the collective effort to enhance patient safety.
The mega-conference witnessed a series of imperative announcements by NABH in the arena of patient safety and digital healthcare.
On the occasion, NABH released new standards including 1st Edition of Digital Health Accreditation Standards for Hospitals, Entry Level Certification Standards for Dental Clinics, Certification Standards for Stroke Care Centres, Care Home Accreditation Standards; 2nd Edition of Allopathic Clinics Accreditation Standards comprising Dialysis, Dermatology and Day Care and 3rd Edition of Accreditation Standards for Dental Service Providers, aimed at enhancing healthcare quality and ensuring patient safety at the grassroots level.
The conference placed a strong emphasis on Quality in Patient Safety and Digital Health along with its role in improving healthcare quality, access, and cost-effectiveness. It witnessed the signing of significant Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). While an MoU was signed between NABH and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University for the establishment of a Chair of Quality in the University, the exchange of an MoU to promote Digital Health Initiatives occurred between NABH and Koita Foundation. During the conference, NABH and NATHEALTH signed an MoU for Healthcare Quality Promotional Initiatives. In addition, the participants and dignitaries of the conference watched the unveiling of the NABH-NATHEALTH Patient Safety Microsite, "Choose Safer Healthcare”.
Speaking on the occasion, *Shri Jaxay Shah, Chairperson, QCI,* highlighted the importance of fostering patient safety and initiating healthcare quality interventions at the grassroots level. He further added, “We believe that quality change begins at the very foundation of our healthcare system, not limited to only metropolitan cities but also in the rural and tier 2 & tier 3 cities of India. And, NABH, a constituent board of the Quality Council of India (QCI) is very well in alignment with this vision. The release of new NABH standards in the Entry Level Certification Standards for Dental Clinics and existing Certification Programmes for Entry Level Hospitals is a testament to our dedication to making quality care accessible to them.”
Reminding about the paramount importance of World Patient Safety Day, *Dr R. P. Singh, Secretary General, QCI* , emphasized, “Recognizing the profound significance of quality and well-being of patients is extremely critical for the welfare of the nation. We firmly believe that a robust quality ecosystem in healthcare is not only crucial for elevating our healthcare industry but also for positioning it firmly on the global map, aligned with international standards of healthcare. Through collaborative efforts, transparency, and accountability, we aspire to build a healthcare system that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of patients and sets new benchmarks in quality and safety."

During the NPSC’23, *Dr. Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO, NABH,* shared valuable insight on the intricate link between technology and patient safety. He said, “In this digital age, the fusion of healthcare and technology is not merely an option; it's an imperative. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) stands as a beacon, illuminating our path toward harnessing digital health solutions to improve patient safety. NABH recognizes the urgency and potential of this mission. Our pledge is to play a key role in driving the nationwide adoption of Digital Health (DH) standards and practices, aligning seamlessly with the ABDM framework.”
In the session “Dreaming Differently About Patient Safety”, *Mr. Himanshu Patel, Member, Governing Body, Quality Council of India,* envisioned a future healthcare landscape in India where patient safety becomes an embedded culture. He said, “We are paving the platforms to equip our healthcare providers with the latest tools, knowledge, and best practices, ensuring that every patient receives the safest and highest quality care possible. Collaborations, innovations, and strategic partnerships will be the cornerstone of this transformative journey”.
